When it comes to tooth bleaching there are four
options to consider.
1. The most conservative method is over the
counter bleaching material. There is a vast array of materials on
the market. We have not been able to try them all but
have had good success with the Crest Whitening Strips. This material
is recommended for patients with relatively light colored teeth and
just want to enhance their brightness.
2. The next option is for teeth that are naturally
darker or for people that have habits that stain the teeth (i.e.
Coffee, tea or tobacco). This is professional strength Crest
Whitening Strips. These strips are 80% stronger than the over
the counter consequently, more effective and quicker.
The Crest Whitening Strips Professional Strength are available in
our office.
3. The next option is a custom made home bleaching
trays. This method of bleaching is reserved for the heavily
stained patient or for the patient that wants quicker results.
The benefit of the custom trays is that they do a quicker bleaching
process and the trays are custom fit to the contours of your
smile. Also the trays last a long time so therefore personal
home touch-up is possible as needed at a minimal expense.
4. The final option is in-office bleaching which
enables the patient to see the results almost immediately.
Once the patient has undergone the in-office bleaching it maybe
necessary to incorporate either the whitening strips or the custom
trays to maintain the shade of the teeth depending on the personal
habits of the patient.
All of the methods can cause sensitivity while
undergoing the bleaching process but is usually resolved when
bleaching is discontinued. the best way to determine what is
the best and most effective method for you personally is to have a
consultation appointment.
